I am so fond of smoothies! But can you believe I had never tried a smoothie bowl before? It’s something that has been on my list for quite a while already, so today it was finally time to experiment with this great trend! And you know what? It was delicious!
The concept of a smoothie bowl is that you make a very thick smoothie which you can eat out of a bowl for breakfast and which you can put all sorts of nice toppings on as well. The trick is to use frozen fruit, which causes the thick texture. Normally it’s enough that one type of all the ingredients you use is frozen. I kind of forgot this and used two frozen fruits, which caused that I had almost sorbet ice-cream instead of a thick smoothie 😉 Nevertheless is was amazing, ’cause it felt like eating ice-cream for breakfast and I didn’t even had to feel guilty about it!
The fun thing about a smoothie bowl, just like with regular smoothies, is that you can make endless variations and creations. I decided to go for a pink one, because after all I’m still a girl who likes pink a lot 😉 It’s not a really spectacular variation, but the most important thing is that it tastes good. You can also use vegetables in your smoothie, but more about that in another smoothie bowl recipe soon! For now, we’ll just keep it on tasty red fruits and some power toppings.
Have a great time making this for a super start of the day! And certainly let me know which variations you like! I’ll be definitely trying out more of this very soon 🙂
- What do you need? (2 bowls)
– 1 banana (frozen if you don’t use other frozen fruits)
– (Frozen) raspberries
– 10 strawberries
– 6 dried dates
– 250ml almond milk (or any other plant based milk)
– Toppings: banana, strawberries, coconut shreds, chia seeds,…
- How do you make it?
Depending on how big your blender is, you can either mix everything at once and divide over two bowls, or you just split the ingredients in two, mix the first smoothie for the first bowl and then repeat the process.
You just add the ingredients to your blender, mix, and your smoothie is ready! It’s as simple as that! For the toppings you can variate and be creative as much as you like. Show me your magnificent bowls tagging @onceyougovegan in your pictures on Instagram! Let’s inspire each other 🙂
